Vincent: A loyal soldier for the 'Fireflies', was signed up for the army when he was 15 years old by his father -right after he had lost his mother- and a year later he lost his father, and so the army is the only thing he has left to stay.(Is the main character for the book.)

Emma: Vincent's sister, followed him into the army at the age of 16, when their father died, and does not regret it. She looks up to Vincent, and insists on calling him Vinnie, which only she is allowed to call him.
